Thomas Eagar.

As our junior class advisor, he helped us in many ' ’tight” sit-

school policy.

We, the faculty and students, offer our sincere congratulations to these fine young ladies
for their hard work and foresight which qualified them to be early graduates of Henry T.

The field hockey team completed the season with a 3-4-3 record which was very
good since the girls did not start the season off too well. The early season losses
may be attributed to the fact that many of the girls were inexperienced. Senior
Velia Pola and sophomore Mary Santos were the only forwards from the previous
year. Defensive players with experience were four juniors; Capt. Nancy O'Hara,
Debbie King, Dianna Lewis, and Janet Scovill.

The most exciting games were played near the end of the season. The 1-1 ties with
the two top teams, Harwich and Martha's Vineyard showed Sandwich a much
improved team. With the experience gained the girls should be in the mnning for a
championship next year.

This year's Cross Country team consisted of 13 runners. There were 9 freshmen, 2 sophomores,
and 2 juniors. Of the 13, there were 5 girls. Junior Chris DiPrete was the only one with any previ-
ous running experience .

Outstanding individual performances were turned in by the team. Danny DiPrete was the top
freshman runner in the Cape and Islands Conference and he also received medals for his 15th and
22nd place finishes in the state wide freshman races held in Boston. Each race had no fewer than
150 runners. He also received a trophy for his 5th place finish in the Conference race held on
Sandwich's 2.8 mile course. Older brother Chris received a trophy for his 8th place finish in the
Conference meet. Junior Lauri Meeks received a trophy for being the top girl runner in the Con-
ference .

Letter winners were Chris and Danny DiPrete, Steve Pagani, Curtis Holden, Peter Vigliano,
Kevin Merritt, and Lauri Meeks.

Team awards went to Danny DiPrete who was elected captain; to Chris and Danny DiPrete who
were elected most valuable; and to Steve Pagani who was selected as the most improved.

The 1974 soccer team established themselves as one of the finest athletic teams in Sandwich history. The
undefeated League Season was accomplished through tremendous work, beginning in the summer, by many
individuals. This work also resulted in a State Tournament berth for the second consecutive year.

We are very proud of our record and the fact that a tradition of success is becoming synonymous with Sand-
wich soccer.

This year's team recorded a 4-3-3 record. The best team performance was turned in at Har-
wich as Sandwich posted a 2-0 win. Four Jr. High players contributed to the team effort.
Nauset, D-Y and Tabor were also defeated by the Knights J. V. squad.

Bob Bmn, Bill Eccleston, John Walker, James Earle and Greg Kapinos did a fine job all
year.

Soccer Cheerleaders

This year's soccer cheerleaders consisted of nine girls rallying the team to an undefeated
victory. They were seniors Gayle Elvander, Debbie McLaughlin, Doreen Santos, Peggy
Conitz, and Kris Johnson; juniors Charlene Johnson and Pam Taylor; and freshmen Pam
Elvander and Jane Thomas.

We would like to extend a special thank you to Mrs. Charles Phillips, who helped pick
material for hand sewn uniforms, and to Mrs. William Hendy who backed us at all our
games.

Near the end of the season, after losing one of the squad members, we recruited a former
basketball cheerleader, junior Martha Gallant.

We would like to thank Mr. Evans and the team for giving us a season we could never for-
get.

The 1974-75 basketball team completed a commendable season with an overall record of
10 wins and 8 losses. The league record of 7-5 was good for a third place standing.

Highlights of the season were overtime games with Barnstable and Nauset; and one point
margin games with Wareham and Provincetown. These were four extremely exciting and
well played games.

MaryEllen Kudera and Judy Hendy, the two Seniors on the team, demonstrated outstand-
ing leadership qualities as co-captains of the team. Other varsity team members were
Nancy O'Hara, Mary Santos, Deedee Lewis, Debbie King, Lynn Gourley, Laurie Meeks,
Lori Bess, Lynn Gaboon, Lynn Crowell, and Donna Gilfoy.

MaryEllen Kudera, Nancy O'Hara, and Mary Santos were elected, for their skillful play-
ing, to the Cape & Island League All-Star Team.

Michele McNamara served as a very capable manager for this year's team.

This years girls J.V. team enjoyed a particularly successful season, winning 6 of their 10
game schedule. This respectable record was achieved through long hours of practice, indi-
vidual and team cooperation. It is hoped that this effort, attitude, and success will continue
to accompany these girls in their varsity years to come.

The 1974-75 basketball team finished the season with a 9-10 record. The team was made up of almost
entirely underclassmen. Peter Howell, the only senior on the team, displayed fine play and leadership
throughout the year. Junior guard Matt Mahoney ended the season with a 15-5 scoring average and was
selected to represent Sandwich in the All-Star game. Dave Finerty and John Hendy gained respect throughout
the league with their tough rebounding. Finerty led all Sandwich players in the rebounding department by
pulling down 220 boards.

A surprise newcomer to the team was sophomore Carlos Holland . Carlos improved with every game and by
mid season had earned himself a starting position. Jamie Miller proved to be the defensive ace and did an
outstanding job usually guarding the opponents best scorer.

Sandwich finished the season in fourth place in the Cape & Island League. The high point of the year was
the upset over second place Provincetown.

Next year all but Howell will return to hopefully help capture that first place spot in the league and gain a
berth in the State Tournament .

The 1974-75 Junior Varsity Basketball team ended up with a 5-11 overall season. We started off
rather slow , but we were in every contest until the end .

Although we only won 5 games, we won 4 of them in the second half of the season. We had more
talent on the floor than the record indicated. It just took a while to put it all together into a team
effort.

I think the boys finally realized that it takes 100% effort and dedication from everyone to produce
a winner.

I look forward to seeing players such as Jimmy Stanley, Bill Mahoney, Kevin Santos, and Tom
Hendy to help out the Varsity in the 1975-76 campaign.

Sandwich Varsity Hockey Team, coached by Dave Adams, has not lost a league game in two
years.

The hockey team will be losing two outstanding All-Cape & Islands defensemen - Ken Hawes
and Paul Miskovsky, who will be graduating this year. Other seniors include Doug Barrows, Joe
Seabury, and Bud Taylor.

Because of their outstanding record , the Blue Knights were invited into the Massachusetts State
High School Hockey Tournament and qualififed for the quarter finals by defeating Somerset High
School

The 1974 varsity softball team completed the season with an overall record of 7 wins and 8 losses.
Their Cape and Island League record was 7 wins and 5 losses, which put them in the middle of the
final standings.

The girls showed good field, pitching, and hitting during the season and were excellent representa-
tives of the school because of their fine display of sportsmanship.

With many starting players returning, and co-captains Judy Hendy and MaryEllen Kudera leading the
team, the 1975 softball season looks very promising and we are looking forward to an outstanding,
action-packed year!

The Sandwich softball future and girls sports in general received a big boost with the for-
mation of a JV team last year. With the additional practice time and ten game JV schedule.
Sandwich had its largest turnout ever for softball .

The Junior Varsity team composed of freshman and sophomore players gained valuable
skills in daily practices and in game experiences. With this training ground for younger
players the future of Sandwich softball appears much brighter.

The Sandwich High Varsity Baseball team completed the 1974 season with a Cape and Island League record
of 8-4 and an over-all record of 10-5. Finishing third behind league Harwich and second place Nauset, the
Blue Knights ended the season on a winning note defeating Provincetown 2-1 and Chatham 8-7.

Senior All-Cape selection Myles Hickey, juniors Gerry DeConto and Peter Howell, sophomores Dave Fin-
erty, Jamie Miller, Russ Schmelzer, Karl Uggerholt and John Hendy provided Sandwich with hitting power
resulting in 120 runs being scored .

The highlight of the season was a come-back victory over Nauset 13-12, the second victory in as many
games over the league leaders. Special recognition goes to captain Myles Hickey for his team leadership:
sophomore John Hendy for his team leading batting average; and Geny DeConto and Peter Howell for their
fine defensive performance.

The 1975 squad will have the leadership of co-captains DeConto and Howell as well as an excellent group of
sophomore lettermen.

Special thanks to team manager Mike Jones and Coach Giardino for their tireless effort and very able assist-
ance.

Our program is constantly expanding in order to meet the growing needs of the
baseball interest at Sandwich High. The responsibility of the J.V. program is to
develop talent for the Varsity program. This year good prospects are Pat and Mike
Ward and Kevin Santos who should break into the Varsity group in the coming year.

The Sandwich golf team completed a very successful season in
1974, going undefeated in league competition with an 8-0 record.
Although the team will be losing their first man, Randy Lewis, the
outlook is pointing toward another good year.

This years team was the first to represent Sandwich in competition. Although Sandwich did not
enter the Cape & Islands league we competed against several Cape schools. Our record was 3-4,
this included 2 wins over Harwich and 1 against D-Y. We have many promising young tennis
players at Sandwich, among them Kevin Merritt, a sophomore, and already has established him-
self as a top competitor on Cape Cod .

Lisa Leydon and DeDe Lewis turned in fine performances. Steve Putnam, Ken Hawes and Dick
Winslow continued to improve throughout the year.

thinks they can handle it; to Andy G. a band- Aid box full of Vitamin C; to the Bourne
Rink a bronze plaque with my name to put on my spot on the bench; to Joel Bess a coat of
armor for the hockey bus when they win next year.

I, David Dinklage, leave B-Man to Matt and Veritas to Phyllis.

I, Joan Chapman, leave Carol O’Connell a quart of Tango and one more trip to Upper
Cape; to Donna Gilfoy a DUCK! of her own and my GREEN hat for horse shows; and I
leave Pam Freeman an M-80 and a quarter to give Patty Armstrong for the vibrating bed.
I, Ned Sawyer, leave my ability to study to Marty in order that he may remember the
distinction.

I, Steven Putnam, leave high school with a lot of good memories; to Mrs. Coggeshall I

I leave my little brother Ray to take my position on the bench (I mean team) .

I, Paul Denney, leave a piece of chedder cheese to Mr. Stanford.

I, Ronnie Olson, leave Nancy O’Hara my ability to laugh since she never laughs; to Kyle
Murphy I leave one handbook on how not to be shy around girls and all the good music
that Bowie and Ronson have given him; also I leave Dena Fermino some nice straight,
blond hair; and to my brother Wayne a very happy life.

I , Judy Hendy , leave Miss Mulcahy the strength to make it through two more years with
Tom; and to Mrs. Coggeshall some sopranos to sing in B period.

I, Peter Howell, leave Mr. Fenton 7 cans of Strawberry flavored Copenhagen so that he
doesn’t have any more nicotine fits; and to Mr. G. I leave my excellent breaking ball.

I, Doreen Santos, leave to my sisters and brothers good luck in S.H.S.; I also leave Mary
S . , Nancy D. , and Donna R. Argyle socks in hopes they all wear them the same day.

to Danny Gilfoy a warm smoking room and my memory; to Michael Miskovsky my love

and luck to our brothers hoping they'll make it to graduation.

I, Doug Barrows, leave to Mr. Fenton a proposition for Beach Rights this summer, and
Sandwich High School.

I, Bud Taylor, depart with the unquestionable knowledge that 1 have been in more and
less desirable places in the world , yet Sandwich will always remain the most distinct in
my mind.

I, Kye Broderson, leave Harry Dager Evans III three cherry pies; to Mike Jones a case of
7-UP (limes included).

I, Dennis O'Connell, leave my Volkswagen to Chip and some crackerjacks to Janet.

I, Betsy Lane, leave to "Mindell" a summer of fun and sailing with Dick; to Lisa and
Amy a copy of "West Side Story;" and to Mr. Evans a dozen chocolate chip cookies.

1, Jane Taylor, leave the Bands Low Brass Section in the care of Rita; to Mary the hope of
someday receiving an "A" in Geometry; the pottery section of the An Dept. , in hopes
that someone new will learn to love and care for it.

I, Ruth Condon, leave my great ability to have panies to my sister Jeanne (but not to use
our house); to Chip a bottle of tabasco sauce; my great tennis serve to Kevin Merritt; to
Bonnie my 4:30 curfwe; my sewing ability to Dianel Guinzo; my punch recipe to Mo in
hopes that she can liven up her parties; and now me and weave leave with many S.H.S.
memories only to be sorry that I have to leave the class of '76 behind - GOOD LUCK!

Throughout our high school years, they have not only taught us to
